Arbor Day Celebration to be held at City Hall

The annual Arbor Day event will be held at City Hall April 29 at 4 p.m. This year the event will also include placing a marker and planting a Drake Elm tree in memory of Patrick Wilcox, streets and sanitation worker who died August 27, 2015.

Mayor Wesley Meiss said in a statement it is appropriate to remember Wilcox in a memorable way.

“The planting of a tree on Arbor Day is an act of reflection, where the importance of trees relates to the quality of life in a community. As mayor, I feel it is an appropriate time to dedicate a tree planting in memory of Patrick Wilcox, who passed August 27, 2015 in the line of duty with the City of Milton Streets and Sanitation Department. Patrick Wilcox will always be remembered of his desire to improve the beauty and quality of life in this community,” said Meiss.

For the past 20 years, the City of Milton has participated in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program and continues to meet the program’s standards.
