Jordan Moon explodes off the floor in his first clean and jerk attempt at 310 pounds during a preseason boys’ weightlifting meet Jan. 27 against Fort Walton Beach. The move requires the lifter to yank the weight off the floor up to the shoulders in one move. Ultimately, he failed at this attempt, unable to stabilize the barbell above his head in the jerk portion of the lift.
Moon, competing in the 238-lbs. class, had the heaviest clean and jerk of the day with his successful lift of 300 pounds. He placed first in the weight class. He also had the highest combined weight – bench press and clean and jerk – as well. He benched 320 lbs., which tied him for third best on the day. Jeremiah Chavis-Mhoon claimed ‘biggest bench’ honor with 335 lbs.
Moon is a senior at Navarre, and he played a little football in the fall. The Raiders travel to Pace Monday for a meet. Their schedule shows five more events before the district championship, at Navarre, March 31.

Stu Camp who took the photo said “as for the shot, I was just trying to stay clear of a potential drop – squatting among a group of cheering teammates at that end of the weight room.”
