Known as the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the second century B.C. The event occurred when Jews rose up against Greek-Syrian rulers in the Maccabean Revolt and drove them out of Jerusalem.
Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that lasts for eight nights. This year, it begins at sundown on Sunday, Nov. 28, and ends Monday, Dec. 6.
Aside from lighting the menorah, many families will give out presents during Hanukkah, usually with one given each night of the holiday.
