Hunger Heroes 5K Fundraiser

The Weekend Food Program of Navarre will host its Inaugural Hunger Heroes 5K fundraiser April 27 on Navarre Beach.

The nonprofit group during the 2018-19 school year provided 477 students at six Navarre schools with nutritional weekend supplemental food, and snacks were also provided to participating schools to help out teachers personally cover that expense for students in need.

Organizers say that for each registrant in the race, one students’ weekend supplemental food will be covered for one month.

“Our goal is for the Hunger Heroes 5K to be the biggest 5K in the Panhandle,” said Michelle Abrams, co-founder of the Weekend Food Program of Navarre, a nonprofit organization associated with Outreach Navarre.  “Our programs are growing, and this 5K is designed to engage families who want to help.”

All proceeds from the Hunger Heroes 5K will benefit Outreach Navarre’s operating budget and programs, which are staffed by 100-percent volunteers.
