Hurricane Sally update #14 for SRC

Garcon Bridge opened with no restrictions, schools open tomorrow.

• It appears the Yellow River has crested. No additional flooding is expected.
• The county is working with state and FEMA recovery teams on damage assessments. Report damage to https://bit.ly/2Rnogx8 to assist in this process.
• The county curfew has been lifted which includes all of unincorporated Santa Rosa County. It does not include the City of Gulf Breeze – see their site for the latest.
• The Citizens Information Line remains open, 850-983-INFO (4636), for questions.

County Openings and Closures

• Anticipate normal operations of county offices, including the libraries, will reopen on Mon., Sept. 21.
• Navarre Beach is open to the public. Some restrooms are closed for lack of power.
• Navarre Bayside Park and the Visitors Information Center remain closed.
• The Navarre Beach Boat Ramp along with the floating dock/kayak access on the sound side on Navarre Beach remains closed for safety until further notice.
• Floridatown Park remains closed until further notice for cleanup and repairs.
• Emergency Management remains activated at a Level II for Sally recovery.

Debris

• The county’s debris hauling contractor will be in the county on Tues., Sept. 22 and Wed., Sept 23 cutting hanging limbs from over the roads so trucks can pick up debris.
• Residential debris removal will then begin Thurs., Sept. 24.
• To help removal debris pickup operate as smoothly as possible, separate your debris as follows:
• – normal household trash
  – vegetative debris
  – construction/demolition debris
  – appliances/white goods
  – electronics
  – household hazardous debris (see list)
• Crews will begin pickup in a central location and systematically move through the county. Once the crews make one complete pass, additional passes will be made to pick up extra debris. Residents will be notified before crews make a final pass.
• The county’s debris pickup does not include the cities of Milton (www.miltonfl.org) or Gulf Breeze (www.cityofgulfbreeze.us). See those municipality web sites for their debris pickup plans.
• Crews will begin by picking up vegetative debris first. Please cut logs less than 8 feet long. Vegetative debris cannot be mixed with treated lumber, fencing, construction or demolition debris.
• Place separated debris beside the roadway where crews can easily access. Do not stack debris under power lines, low-hanging limbs, near mailboxes, fire hydrants, water meters, etc. or in ditches
• Crews are not allowed to go on to private property to remove debris.
• Pickup will be from dusk to dawn and vehicles.
• Santa Rosa County residents (not commercial haulers/landscapers) may also bring vegetative debris at no cost to Central Landfill until further notice.
• Two free debris drop-off locations will be announced as soon as confirmed.

Volunteer and Donation Needs and Coordination

• Resident who need assistance with tree removal, roof tarping, muck-outs or other manpower needs should call the Citizen Information Line, 850-983-INFO.
• Persons and organizations (churches, etc.) who would like to volunteer should call 850-983-INFO and a volunteer coordinator will match them to the best fit.
• Do collect donations without knowing what is needed, where it is needed or having a plan to store and distribute.
• Those interested in donating should visit SAFER Santa Rosa (www.facebook.com/safersantarosa) or mail a check to SAFER, 4499 Pine Forest Road, Milton, FL 32583. There is no call for in-kind donations.

Reporting Damage

• Residents are asked to continue to report damage at https://bit.ly/2Rnogx8 or call 850-983-4636. This helps the county with the assessment to FEMA.
• Take photos before you start cleaning up including taking photos of the water line from flood waters on the outside of your home before you pressure wash.
• Take note of lost or damaged items and gather any original receipts for these items.
• After gathering documentation, call your insurance company to submit a claim.

Road and Bridge Closures

• The following county roads are closed at the bridge:
  – Amos Cabaniss Road
  – Bryant Bridge Road
  – Deaton Bridge Road
  – Hall Road
  – Gin Road
• Three Mile Bridge remains closed at this time and will not reopen soon.
• FDOT has extended the toll suspension for the Garcon Point Bridge.
• Traffic on the Garcon Point Bridge is no longer restricted to two axles; all vehicles may now travel on the bridge. The Garcon Point Bridge will continue to serve as a temporary detour while the Pensacola Bay Bridge is closed.

County COVID Testing

• COVID testing is planned to be resumed Mon., Sept. 21 at Milton Community Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Waste Haulers

• ECUA’s recycling facility sustained damage during the hurricane and has temporarily suspended the acceptance of recyclables. Recycling pickup throughout the county will be suspended until the facility is re-opened.
• All residents are asked to make sure that their garbage cans are not full of water. The water makes them too heavy for the automated truck arm to pick them up.

Santa Rosa County School District

• Santa Rosa County Schools will reopen Mon., Sept. 21.
• Remote students with no access will be able to use local library parking lots for wifi access. If students need to go into the library they are asked to call ahead, 850-981-READ. See www.santarosa.fl.gov/659/Libraries for more information.
• Remote students will also be contacted this afternoon with a list of schools who will have WiFi access in parking lots.
