KITCHEN FIRE DAMAGES APARTMENT

April 5, 2022. At 9:19 a.m. the Holley-Navarre Fire District was alerted for a residential structure fire in the 2200 block of Paloma St. The dispatch center advised they received a 911 call from the occupant who had just returned home and could see flames in the kitchen through the front window.

Holley-Navarre’s Engine 45 arrived on scene and reported smoke coming from the front door of the four-unit apartment building. Upon investigating, Engine 45’s Captain reported the fire had been extinguished and there was no fire extension beyond the kitchen, however there was considerable smoke damage throughout the apartment. Investigation indicated the cause as accidental due to a stovetop burner being left on, igniting nearby combustibles.

Firefighters were able to safely remove two pet cats from the smoke-filled apartment but despite the resuscitation efforts from fire and EMS personnel, one cat did not survive.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants with lodging and essentials.

HNFD thanks our mutual aid partners who also responded to the call; Navarre Beach Fire Rescue, Midway Fire District, Florosa Fire District and Lifeguard Ambulance Service.
