Holiday Closures

Libraries will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday Friday through Monday, December 23-26. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, December 27.

 

Saturdays With Santa

Dec. 3, 10 a.m. at the Pace Library

Dec. 10, 10 a.m. at the Milton and Navarre Libraries

Dec. 17, 10 a.m. at the Gulf Breeze and Jay Libraries

Santa will take a break from his preparations at the North Pole to visit Santa Rosa County Libraries. You’ll be treated to a Christmas story, festive snacks, and a special gift from Santa. Please bring your camera if you would like a picture taken with Santa. All ages are welcome! Special thanks to area Friends of the Library for sponsoring this very special visit. Don’t forget to stop inside the library to see displays featuring special holiday books. In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times.

 

Preschool Storytime

through December 9

Storytime programs are presented for preschool children ages 3-5 and include stories, finger plays, and action rhymes. Caregivers must remain in the library during storytime; however, they cannot accompany children into the programs. In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times. In order to minimize distractions, latecomers will not be admitted.

 

If this will be your first storytime visit, we invite you to come to the library before your first adventure to meet your storytime presenter, pick up a welcome packet, explore our children’s area, and enjoy a tour of the library!

 

Storytime will be presented during the following times through December 9:

11 – 11:30 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library

11 – 11:30 a.m. or 1 – 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre Library

11:15 – 11:45 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Milton Library

11:15 – 11:45 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Gulf Breeze Library

11 – 11:30 a.m. on Fridays at the Pace Library

Refreshing Reads Book Club – Jay Library

Dec. 6, 3 p.m.

Get Refreshed!  Read discussion-friendly titles. Enjoy an uplifting book club where you can talk about books in a spirit of fun and sharing. See a staff person to sign up. This month’s title is “Christmas Light” written by Donna VanLiere. The Jay Library is located at 5259 Booker Ln.

 

Book Chat – Pace Library

Dec. 7, 4 p.m.  

One of the next best things to reading a good book is chatting about it!  Share your enthusiasm and join the conversation at the Pace Library on the first Wednesday of every other month at 4 p.m. This month’s title is “The Last Painting of Sara de Vos” by Dominic Smith. Participation is limited to 15 participants and registration is required. Additional information can be found at our online calendar or contacting the Pace Library. Classic Movie in Recognition of Pearl Harbor

Dec. 7, 4 p.m. at the Milton Library

This classic movie is presented in recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day,

the 75th anniversary of the 1941 Battle of Pearl Harbor. Set at an Army barracks in Hawaii in the days preceding the attack on Pearl Harbor, a lone-wolf soldier and boxing champion “Prew” Prewitt refuses to box, preferring to play the bugle instead.

 

Family Movie Favorites – Jay Library

Dec. 7, 4 p.m.

This month’s Family Movie is presented in recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, the 75th anniversary of the 1941 Battle of Pearl Harbor. This movie follows the story of two best friends, Rafe and Danny, and their love lives as they go off to join the war. This program is free and open to the public. Page Turners – Gulf Breeze Library

Dec. 9, 10:30 a.m.

Join us in the Gulf Breeze Library meeting room for our fiction book club. Page Turners meets at 10:30 a.m. on the second Friday of every other month. This month’s selection is “The Wind is Not a River” by Brian Payton. There is a limit of 20 participants, so please call the library or drop by to sign up and speak to a staff member today about reserving your copy. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at1060 Shoreline Dr.

 

Bereavement Support – Navarre Library

Dec. 9, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Meeting are held at the Navarre Library. The sessions address grief support and offer assistance, love and listening ears to those grieving the loss of a loved one. All materials are provided and no reservation is required. There is no charge to participate. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.

Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the Gulf Breeze Library. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive.

 

Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D) – Navarre Library

Dec. 14, 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Come, Sit, Stay & Read with a furry friend in the Navarre Library. Registration is required. The program is held on the second Wednesday each month in the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. Contact the Navarre Library for more information or to sign up.

 

Third Fridays with UF/IFAS Extension – Gulf Breeze Library

Dec 16, 10 a.m.

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Services presents a monthly series on a variety of interesting topics with solutions for your life. They can provide information about agriculture, the environment, sustainable living, disaster preparation and recovery, 4-H youth development, family and consumer issues, and lawn and garden problems. This month’s topic is Backyard Chickens. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive.  

 

Classical Guitar Gatherings – Navarre Library

Dec. 17, 10 a.m.

Enjoy the elegant art of classical guitar with Jimmy Chandler and his students at the Navarre Library. Mr. Chandler is a local resident and classical guitar instructor with over 30 years of experience. He will host a series of gatherings to form a community for classical guitar enthusiasts, promote appreciation of the classical guitar, and provide opportunities for guitarists of all levels to meet, play, and learn. Music from all periods of history and countries will be presented and guest lecturers and performers will be included. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

 

AniManga Club – Gulf Breeze Library

Dec. 20, 4 p.m.

Learn and share graphic art skills in a fun environment.  The club meets on third Tuesday of each month. The AniManga Club is dedicated to the enjoyment and promotion of animation, cartooning, and related arts. Bring your art, discuss techniques of drawing, cartooning, anime and manga art, as well as your favorite title and artists in those genres. The AniManga Club is open to youth in grades 6 – 8. Registration is not required. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Dr.  

 

Graphic Novel Book Club – Milton Library

Dec. 20, 5 p.m.

Join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts at the Milton Library on the third Tuesday each month to discuss the book of the month. This club will be enjoyed by the new and seasoned graphic novel reader. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests, and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month’s selection is “Lumberjanes Vol. 1.”  Please speak with a staff member to sign up. Bibliobabblers Teen Book Club – Gulf Breeze Library

Dec. 27, 6 p.m.

Teens in 9-12th grade who are 14-18 year olds can take a break from homework and school to hangout and discuss the read-of-the-month with friends at the library. This month’s title is “Brain Jack” by Brian Falkner. Bibliobabblers meets at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of every other month in the Gulf Breeze Library meeting room. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Dr.

 

Creative Camp with Lego Bricks – Pace Library

Dec. 28, 2 p.m.

Students in grades K- 5 can come prepared to make a fanciful storybook-themed Lego brick design! All supplies will be provided. Bring a camera and take photos of your creations. The maximum number of participants is 15. Call or visit the Pace Library to sign up. The Pace Library is located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd.

 

New Year Family Movie – All Libraries

Dec. 30, 11 a.m.

Celebrate the New Year with your family at the library with a whimsical movie where Baby New Year runs away from Father Time and Santa sends Rudolph after him. Don’t wait until the 31st to wear your party hats and begin the celebration! In consideration of all participants, programs will begin promptly at the assigned times.
