On Tuesday , April 19 a private event at Ye Old Brothers hosted supporters of Mariya Calkins for Florida House District 3.
The event kicked off with Santa Rosa County Commission Chair Bob Cole’s introduction of Mariya Calkins, following by the endorsing speech of US Congressman Matt Gaetz, calling Mariya Calkins an experienced, effective leader along with her background working in the Florida Legislature as some of the many reasons he is endorsing her.
Many local elected officials attended the fundraising reception including Santa Rosa County Commissioner Dave Piech, Santa Rosa County Commissioner Sam Parker, Santa Rosa County Commissioner James Calkins, Milton City Councilwoman Shannon Rice, Milton City Councilwoman Shari Sebastiao, Milton City Councilman Jeff Snow, Santa Rosa County Clerk of Court Donald Spencer and Escambia County Commission Chair Jeff Bergosh.
Mariya Calkins is running as a Republican for State House District 3 that includes most of Santa Rosa County and North Okaloosa area. Since the launch of her campaign in January, Calkins has banked over $160,000 in campaign and committee funds, surpassing the amounts raised by her opponents.
“I’m extremely grateful for all the support of my campaign,” said candidate Mariya Calkins. “The support we are receiving from the citizens of District 3 reinforces my commitment to this race. It would be my great honor to serve and represent the wonderful people of Okaloosa and Santa Rosa Counties in the Florida House.”
Mariya was born in the U.S.S.R., where she experienced firsthand the severe restrictions on freedom and personal liberties under the Communist regime. In 2018, she became a U.S. citizen. She has served on staff in the Florida Legislature, where she had the opportunity to work on many conservative issues, including pro-life legislation. She and her husband live in Milton with their two daughters.
Mariya has been endorsed by Congressman Matt Gaetz, Santa Rosa County Commission Chair Bob Cole, Milton City Councilwoman Shannon Rice, Milton City Councilwoman Shari Sebastiao, State Representative Anthony Sabatini, State Representative Tommy Gregory, Escambia County Commission Chair Jeff Bergosh, Milton City Councilwoman Roxanne Meiss, Milton City Councilman Jeff Snow, Crestview Mayor JB Whitten and Dr. William Lile, the “Pro Life Doc” based in Pensacola who raises awareness around the country to protect and highlight the importance of unborn children.
