Last night at 11:23 p. m. the Holley-Navarre Fire District was alerted for a residential structure fire in the 2200 block of Calle de Castelar. The 911 call reported fire in the garage at that location.

Upon his arrival HNFD’s Fire Chief confirmed a working fire in the garage with heavy fire showing and fire extension to the attic. As crews were inside the burning home attacking the blaze, the roof began collapsing so they were withdrawn and an exterior attack was directed. The2,900 sq. ft. home is a total loss with major fire damage on the second floor, 2 vehicles in the garage were also destroyed. The American Red Cross was notified and is assisting the residents.

The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate the cause. Their preliminary investigation points towards a failed electrical cord in the garage.

In all, 22 firefighters from five departments (Holley-Navarre, Navarre Beach, Midway, Florosa, and Hurlburt Field) battled the blaze. East Milton, Avalon and Escambia County provided coverage for the area during the fire.

The blaze originated in the garage and spread quickly through the attic.
