NAVARRE MAN SAVED LIVES IN BOATING ACCIDENT

Alan Mankoff

You might not know this but Alan Mankoff a resident of Navarre was driving home from his job in Pensacola April 25 when he spotted something in the water as he was going over the bridge on I-10. Alan thought it was birds but noticed some color mixed in about 100 yards away from the bridge in the water.

Alan pulled his car over , got out and ran back to get a better look. He thought there was someone waving so a call was placed to 911. A state trooper happened to drive by at this very moment and pulled over to see if Alan needed help. Alan showed the trooper what he saw. Help was also called in by the trooper (1947 tag )..

In under 30 minutes a boat arrived to rescue 3 people. Pulled from the water was a father, his daughter and a 10 year old grandchild. They were in the water due to a boating accident where their boat hit the bridge. Alan later heard that the 3 people were bruised, exhausted and cold but alive.

The trooper praised Alan for being able to spot them as he was traveling 65 mph over the bridge at the time he thought did I see something in the water?

There is no doubt that the actions of Alan pulling over and running back to verify that something beside birds was in the water saved three lives that day.
