NEW SCAM IN SR COUNTY

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office received information related to a scam attempt which occurred on 2/5/18. We want to warn citizens of this new twist which was attempted.

During this incident, an unsolicited phone call took place in which the victim was told there was a warrant for their arrest due to non-compliance to a jury duty summons. The “Scammer” had credible information such as names, addresses and phone numbers of the victim.

The “Scammer” stated he was Officer Miller with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office and they needed $18,000.00 for bond. They were also told to obtain Dollar Store gift cards and to REMAIN ON THE PHONE the entire time. They were also told to MEET AT THE SHERIFFS OFFICE. This victim felt uncomfortable and discontinued the call and contacted the Sheriff’s Office.

We want to remind citizens, the Sheriff’s Office DOES NOT solicit funds over the telephone. Never pay anyone over the telephone unless you first verify the information yourself. If in doubt, contact the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office directly at 850-983-1100.
