
On November 27th, just before midnight, the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office was engaged in a pursuit of a reckless vehicle (Land Rover) while traveling westbound on I-10.
A Florida State Trooper was notified by one of their deputies that they were involved in a pursuit which was traveling into Escambia County, Florida. At the same time, TRCC (Tallahassee Regional Communications Center) Dispatch received a call from the Sheriff’s Office notify us of the pursuit while requesting assistance.
The State Trooper engaged in the pursuit while westbound on I-10 approaching Scenic Hwy. The Two Santa Rosa Deputies involved in the pursuit gave way to Trooper Cupples resulting in Trooper Cupples being lead vehicle. After approximately four and a half miles, Trooper Cupples successfully PIT the Land Rover on University Pkwy just north of Davis Hwy. As a result of the PIT, the Land Rover was disabled after traveling over a raised median.
Two Santa Rosa units immediately boxed in the Land Rover to prevent escape. The male driver exited the Land Rover and fled on foot. After the driver fell to the ground due to exhaustion, Trooper Cupples was able to make the arrest without incident.
No injuries to either the suspect or Trooper Cupples. A female passenger was in the Land Rover at the time but never fled or resisted. She was later released.
Charges include, Fleeing and Eluding, Habitual Traffic Offender, Felony Marijuana Possession, Methamphetamine Possession, Resisting without Violence, and DUI. The suspect also has a felony warrant out of Escambia County Alabama.
