The Lady Raiders advance to district basketball final with a 50-40 victory over the Crestview Bulldogs.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we won,” head coach Abby Fogg said. “We played with a lot of effort. I knew going in that Crestview wasn’t going to be an easy win, because they fight really hard. But we kept pushing through, and we finished.”
Big on the defensive half, Fogg cited Olivia Warren — who continued a string of steals on passes to the wings.
“I’m still reading the ball and jumping it,” Warren said.
Navarre established a 10-point cushion early, and rarely did the Bulldogs cut the lead to less than double digits. Several times, in the second half, Crestview got momentum — and points — off their pressure on Navarre ball handlers.
“Once they started pressing, we were getting freaked out a little bit,” the senior guard said. “We were trying to go faster than we should have been. I just tried to stay calm.”
Crestview’s guard Katiya Casey sank 18 point to lead all scorers.
Three Raiders dropped double digits — Rachel Leggett (16), Mickey Vollmer (14), and Warren (10).
Pace and Milton tangled for the other spot in the final. Milton prevailed 50-44. So, the district championship will be determined Friday.
