Navarre’s homecoming football game was a slow-dance on a muddy Russell Stadium field Friday night, and the Mosley Dolphins bested the Raiders 30-7.

The loss put Navarre at 3-2 on the season. Mosley went home with its seven-game unbeaten record intact.

Navarre’s lone score was a first-quarter, 80-yard drive. Kyle Chambers charged in from six yard out.

“We had success running the football the whole game … but we couldn’t capitalize on it,” Raider running back Chris DeCorte said. “We’ve just got to make sure we stay consistent and every single play has got to be positive.”

Mosley used big plays to put the game away – some through the air, some defensively, but mostly on the ground.

Dolphin Josiah McCall broke away for a 30-yard scoring run in the first quarter. Quarterback Cole Horton had plenty of time to connect with deep-threat receivers, then scamper in from three-yards out for the second touchdown. And then Isaac Paul picked off a Chambers pass, then outran everyone for a 55-yard touchdown, and a 21-7 lead just before the halftime whistle.

“To hold that team to 21 (first-half) points was a pretty good effort,” Navarre head coach Jay Walls said.

In the second half, things slowed down considerably. The only offensive score was Mosley running back Randy Pittman crashing in from the one during the third quarter. And then the final points came when two Dolphin defenders dropped Chambers in the end zone for a safety with two minutes left in the game.

“Coming in we knew they were a good team, and it was going to be a battle,” defensive back/punter Derek Percivalle said. “We fought hard, overall.”

Importantly, the Raiders have four games remaining in their regular season. Next up is Pace (3-3), who thumped Munroe 44-29 this week. But in the following matchups, there’s Niceville (7-0) who beat Edison 21-14, Crestview (4-3) who bumped off Andalusia 27-21, and Gulf Breeze (5-1) who got edged 14-13 by West Florida (6-0).
