Santa Rosa County Ducks Unlimited event May 12

On Friday May 12 the fifth annual Golf Tournament for Santa Rosa County Ducks Unlimited will be hosted by Hidden Creek Golf Club in Navarre, Florida.  The four-man scramble tournament is limited to the first 40 teams to register, either at Hidden Creek or online. Registration for the 9 a.m. event is open to the public and tee times are available after the event. The money raised from this event will provide valuable funding for wetland conservation.

​This year is Ducks Unlimited ‘s 80th anniversary and over the next 24 hours, another 250 acres of wetlands will be lost. As each acre of habitat disappears so do the waterfowl that call it home. Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America’s rapidly vanishing waterfowl habitat. Each acre saved is a victory for the ducks, geese and other wildlife that depend on the prairie lands for food, nesting and shelter. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has successfully saved more than 20 million acres of wetlands and prairies thanks in most part to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, this volunteer based organization works toward the goal of enough protected and managed wetlands to fill the skies with birds now, tomorrow, and forever.

​Since 1987, Ducks Unlimited has completed projects in Florida conserving more than 29,000 acres across The Sunshine State.  To date, DU and its partners have invested over $6.2 million in Florida projects, with a goal of securing the future of waterfowl in Florida and throughout North America.  DU is actively working to protect, restore and enhance wetland habitat in the state and on the breeding grounds most important to Florida’s wintering waterfowl, such as the Prairie Pothole Region and the wild rice lake region of Minnesota.

​Volunteer fundraisers are the heartbeat of Ducks Unlimited, and Florida has some of the best.  Florida boasts more than 14,700 members, including 1,061 energetic volunteers who hosted 87 events in 2016, raising nearly $1.2 million to support DU’s conservation mission.

Last year, events like the one to be conducted by our Santa Rosa County Chapter volunteers raised over $1.2 million dollars in Florida, and over $250 million in North America. With your help the Santa Rosa County Chapter can be well on their way to exceeding goals for this year.
