The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting on Highway 98 on Okaloosa Island this afternoon that sent a Mississippi man to the hospital.
A deputy making an unrelated traffic stop heard the gunshot and saw a white truck in the westbound lanes speed away as a man outside another white truck fell to the ground.
The truck believed to have left the scene was located a short time later by Fort Walton Beach Police Department officers and OCSO deputies at a car dealership in the city.
Two people were detained for questioning.
Investigators have interviewed multiple witnesses and the investigation is continuing. At last word, the victim is in surgery.
