Beach restoration crews have placed more than 695,000 cubic yards of sand on Navarre Beach since April 29 and turtle trawlers have safely relocated 131 turtles to a location outside of the borrow area. The project is moving according to schedule and the active work zone has now transitioned to just east of Beach Access #9.
Over the next week, the contractor will continue filling segment three with advancement likely to reach the western end of segment two by June 3, then will begin the replenishment project west of subline two in segment r, the last and westernmost segment of the project. The staging area will transfer from the southeast pier parking lot to Beach Access #12. Beach access #7 will remain closed for use as a staging area.
Monitoring for sea turtles as well as shorebird/seabird nesting and breeding will continue throughout the renourishment process.
