A Cincinnati Ohio couple vacationing in Destin was robbed at gunpoint Thursday night after they tried to buy drugs from a man near Fort Walton Beach.

The 30-year old male says his girlfriend was driving him around as he tried to find $80 worth of marijuana to purchase. An individual at a Mary Esther restaurant directed the couple to Lovejoy Road.

They were approached by a man in a red hoodie who said he could arrange the deal. The couple drove to Oak Street where the individual in the red hoodie and another man got into the car’s back seat shortly before nine p.m. At that point they say the man put a gun to the boyfriend’s neck and demanded all their money.

The robbers also took the girlfriend’s purse and the boyfriend’s iPhone.

An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy later located the stolen phone in front of a home on Oak Street. A woman also located the purse near a home on Cypress Street.

The armed robber wearing the red hoodie is described as a black male, possibly in his early 20’s, and slender.

The second individual was wearing a gray hoodie and is described a possibly 5’6” tall, also in his early 20’s, and with a “welcoming face”.

Anyone with information on the armed robbery is asked to contact the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office at 850-651-7400 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-TIPS, emeraldcoastcrimestoppers.com, or by texting “TIP214 plus your message” to CRIMES a(274637).

The OCSO would like to thank the Fort Walton Beach Police Department for its assistance during the armed robbery response.
