5th ANNUAL TOAST 2 TANNER PUB CRAWL

Members of the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) / Team Tanner are hosting this year’s annual “Toast to Tanner” Charity Pub Crawl on Saturday, 24 October 2015, in Navarre and Navarre Beach, FL.  This Navarre charity event, toasting Tanner Pyeatt, a 2014 graduate of Navarre High School who was diagnosed with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) at age four.
All proceeds from this event will be going to the PPMD Research Fund supporting critical medical research in the “Quest for a Cure” for DMD, which is the most common lethal genetic disorder diagnosed during childhood.  It is a progressive muscle disorder that causes loss of muscle function and independence.  Please go to our website at:   www.parentprojectmd.org
Here is a quick bit of info about Tanner and why we are raising money for PPMD through the annual “Toast to Tanner” charity event.
Tanner Pyeatt was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) when he was 4 years old.  Tanner is the second child of Tim and Charlene Pyeatt.  Early on in his life, his parents could tell there was something different about how Tanner was developing as compared to his older brother Josh.  Doctors kept telling them that all kids grow up differently and not to worry.  Finally, during Tanner’s 4 year old medical check-up a doctor suggested they have a blood test and on that day their lives changed.  They had never heard of Duchenne muscular dystrophy before then and they had no-where to turn for help, until they found Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD).
Tanner is a 2014 graduate of Navarre High School and just recently turned 21. He is a happy young man who loves to volunteer with the special needs class at Navarre High.  Tanner has already been through a lot with his condition.  He began getting weaker in his legs and had to start using a wheelchair at the age of nine. When Tanner was 11, he had two separate incidents that caused him to break both of his legs. At 12, he had spinal fusion surgery to correct the curvature in his back caused by scoliosis. 4 years ago Tanner’s respiratory system began declining and he now has to sleep with the assistance of a breathing device.  His arm strength has greatly declined and he requires the full time assistance of his parents for daily functions.
Even through all of that, Tanner keeps a smile on his face and hope for the future. Hope that a cure will be found some day and soon. More medical research is critically needed and the costs are extremely high.  PPMD is leading the way in raising awareness and funds for research specifically for DMD.  Time is running out and we can’t stop until a cure is found.
