On 10/1/2020 at approximately 2:15 pm, Deputies responded to a burglary in progress on Roy Cook Road in Pace. While deputies were in route, a black van was seen fleeing the area. Deputies located the van and attempted to initiate a traffic stop using their lights and sirens. The driver began to exhibit extremely dangerous driving behaviors that caused Deputies to terminate the stop for public safety reasons.
The suspect was later identified as Stephen Anthony Swenson, 37 years of age. A warrant for burglary, grand theft, driving with a revoked license and flee, elude police was later signed by a judge. Today, Swenson was located at an address on Linda Street in Pace. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle with Deputies where he was also found to be in possession of methamphetamines. Swenson is currently under investigation with our Agency and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for multiple burglary and theft cases. For further details, see attached arrest reports.
Navarre Newspaper reminds our readers that Stephen Anthony Swenson is presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
