On March 6, 2024, East Milton Fire Rescue was dispatched to an emergency involving a helicopter fire at Peter Prince Airport.

A mutual aid box alarm was promptly initiated, prompting the deployment of personnel from Stations 13, 22, 23, and 24, including the Whiting Field Crash unit.

Chief, Squad, Battalion, and Crash 15 responded promptly from the station’s location. Upon arrival at the incident site within two minutes, Chief and Squad 15 efficiently assessed the situation, discovering a hobby helicopter engulfed in flames within the engine compartment and tail section. Battalion and Crash 15 then arrived on the scene.

The fire then was extinguished leading to the commencement of mop-up operations. Chief 15, recognizing the successful containment of the incident, made the decision to cancel all box alarm units.

The efficacy of the response was notably enhanced by the strategic location of Station 15’s new Headquarters which is next door to the airfield and the acquisition of Crash 15 which is a fire apparatus designed to be used for aircraft emergencies. These elements contributed to the overall efficiency and speed of the emergency response, underscoring the importance of preparedness and resource allocation in mitigating such incidents.

The professionalism and quick response demonstrated by all units involved prove the commitment of East Milton Fire Rescue to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
