Human Remains Located
On 11/26/15 at approximately 0945 hrs, Deputies with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to wooded area off of Blue Barnes Road in Milton Florida. A complainant advised he had located what appeared to be human remains while hunting in the wooded area.
Major Crimes Detectives along with Crime Scene unitsresponded to the area to begin their investigation.
In August of this year, an abandoned vehicle was located on the side of Interstate 10 belonging to Lisa Thornton, amissing woman from Navarre. The area in which the vehicle was recovered was in close proximity of the location where the human remains were found. There was circumstantial evidence located near the remains which leads us to believe the remains are of the missing woman. Lisa Thornton was reported missing and endangered when she left her home in August. There were indications that she may have been suicidal.
A forensic examination will be conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office to positively identify the remains as well as the cause of death.
