Hurlburt Field initiates HURCON 5
HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. – Base officials initiated Hurricane Condition 5 at 8:30 a.m. today to prepare for the possible arrival of winds exceeding 50 knots within 96 hours.
HURCON 5 is a level of warning used by the Air Force to assist commanders in preparing their units for storm response actions and is meant to focus the base’s attention on the storm and signal the start of active preparation.
As a normal precaution, the base is preparing for a possible hurricane landfall and/or aircraft evacuation.
