
Waste disposal rates are increasing for the first time in 20 years at Santa Rosa County’s Central Landfill to offset rising costs of landfill construction and maintenance. Beginning April 1, rates for household waste will increase to $36 per ton. Rates for Class III waste – construction and demolition debris, carpet, furniture other than appliances, etc. – will increase to $32 per ton.
New rates are as follows:

Household hazardous waste can still be dropped off for free at the Household Hazardous Waste facility near the entrance of the Central Landfill. The following items are accepted:
- Paints, stains and polyurethanes
- Degreasers, solvents and thinners
- Used cooking oil, motor oil and oil filters, gasoline and diesel
- Transmission fluids, brake fluids, hydraulic fluids and antifreeze
- Rechargable batteries
- Propane tanks
- Fluorescent bulbs and ballasts
- Thermostats and thermometers
- Syringes (in approved containers)
- Fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides
- Computers and other electronic devices (no CRT monitors or TVs)
