LIFEGUARDS ON NAVARRE BEACH

lifeguard
Lifeguard season began Sunday, March 14 with at least four lifeguards on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Navarre Beach. Swimmers will be monitored at the public gulf-side beach areas and lifeguard towers with the greatest need seven days a week through October 30. There are four towers located gulf-side on Navarre Beach; two near the Navarre Beach Pier and two inside Navarre Beach Park.
There are still lifeguard positions open, both part-time and full-time. Applications are accepted online at http://agency.governmentjobs.com/santarosa. Applicants must be at least 16 years if age, certified in American Red Cross CPR, first aid and lifeguard training. Positions start at $12.79 per hour.
Beachgoers are advised to always swim near a lifeguard tower and asked heed the warnings of beach flags. Conditions at Navarre Beach are posted on the home page of Santa Rosa County’s web site at www.santarosa.fl.gov.
Additionally beach goers are urged to follow these simple beach safety tips:
  • Learn to swim and never swim alone.
  • Supervise children closely, even when lifeguards are present.
  • Don’t rely on flotation devices, such as rafts; you may lose them in the surf.
  • Alcohol and swimming don’t mix.
  • Protect your head, neck, and spine. Don’t dive into unfamiliar waters. Remember, feet first, first time!
  • Don’t swim at dawn, dusk or at night as these hours are when sharks are most active.
  • Leave the beach area during thunderstorms. Move inside to a building or vehicle.
  • Scuba dive only if trained and certified, and within the limits of your training.
  • No glass containers are allowed at the beach.
  • No beach fires are allowed. Fire residue and superheated sand can severely burn bare feet.
  • To prevent sunburn, always wear 15 SPF sunscreen or higher.
  • Report hazardous conditions to the Navarre Beach office at (850) 981-8888.
