Changes to Recycling Services in Santa Rosa County

Santa Rosa County residents in solid waste franchise areas in the north and south end of the county may experience a temporary interruption in recycling services. Santa Rosa County has recently received notice that the contractor for the processing and removal of recyclable materials collected by all haulers in the franchised areas has used their option to discontinue this agreement because of the impacts of a viable regional market for recyclable materials.

While it is anticipated this may be a short term interruption of four to six months, the commission understands the inconvenience this places on residents and their strong desire to have an active recycling program in our county and so the process is already underway to find an alternative. Given that this is a short term issue, residents are encouraged to continue to place recyclable materials out for collection as directed by their garbage service provider. For residents that use the recycling drop-off at the Central Landfill and Jay Collection Center, these containers will be removed on Jan. 4, 2016 until further notice.
