Santa Rosa County Emergency Management Launches Smoke Alarm Program
Santa Rosa County Emergency Management along with local fire departments has teamed up with the American Red Cross to launch a smoke alarm installation program. Residents of Santa Rosa County who do not have a smoke alarm, or do not have a working alarm, can sign up starting today, Dec. 16, until Friday, Dec. 18 to receive a free smoke alarm by going towww.santarosa.fl.gov/emergency and clicking on the Smoke Alarm Program link under the Calendar of Events. Beginning in January, firefighters will visit local residents to install the new smoke alarms.

The Santa Rosa County Emergency Management Smoke Alarm Program is part of an effort to reach out to local residents, including older adults, young people and residents of neighborhoods, who are vulnerable to fire deaths. According to the National Fire Protection Association, each year three out of five home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. Missing, disconnected or dead batteries are usually the culprit of non-working smoke alarms. The risk of dying in a reported home fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms.
Each fire department in Santa Rosa County including Allentown Volunteer Fire, Avalon Fire/Rescue, Bagdad Volunteer Fire, Berrydale Volunteer Fire, the City of Milton Fire, East Milton Fire and Rescue, Gulf Breeze Volunteer Fire, Harold Volunteer Fire, Holley-Navarre Fire District, Jay Volunteer Fire, Midway Fire District, Munson Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc.; Navarre Beach Fire, Pace Fire/Rescue District, Skyline Fire and Rescue District, and Santa Rosa County Emergency Management are working together to promote fire safety through this program.
