
On 07-31-2024, the Midway Fire District conducted a Transfer of Command Ceremony at Station 35. Fire Chief Jonathan Kanzigg retired after completing 32 years in the fire service.
Chief Kanzigg first joined the district back in 1992 as a Fire Explorer. He went to the fire academy and became a career fire fighter in Mary Esther for a short period of time.
Jonathan joined the Mobile Fire-Rescue in Alabama and worked for the city for nine years. He then returned to the Midway Fire District in 2004 when the department transitioned into a full time department. He rose through the ranks and was appointed Chief in 2018.
He has served the district for the last 16 years. In addition, Chief Kanzigg was very active in the Florida Chief’s Association in various roles, including serving as their President. Through Chief Kanzigg’s tenure, his mission was to provide a well trained staff to the residents of Midway.
The members of the district celebrated with Chief Kanzigg to congratulate him on his retirement. The Chief conducted a final inspection of the men and shook their hands in appreciation of their hard work.

The ceremony concluded with Santa Rosa County Emergency communications activating the station tones. Dispatch congratulated Chief Kanzigg on a job well done.

In addition, their staff will miss dispatching him to emergency calls. The district wishes Jonathon the best of luck with his future endeavors.
