Mary Miller from Kentucky had an interesting day on Thursday , May 6 at Navarre pier.
While Mary was fishing she accidentally hooked a sea turtle and needed help. Mary contacted the turtle rescue center in Navarre and they promptly came out to the pier and safely rescued the sea turtle.
A representative of the center said ” Mary did an outstanding job of contacting us as soon as she realized she had hooked a very large sea turtle off of the Navarre Pier . ”
The sea turtle was estimated to be 80 years old and weighed 200 pounds.
More sea turtles are making their way to Navarre beach because of Sea Turtle Nesting Season (May 1st – Oct 31st).
You can help the sea turtle by keeping Navarre beach clean, flat, and dark at night to give these beautiful sea turtles more tomorrow’s.
