“I’ve been overwhelmed and honored by the outpouring of support for my campaign,” said candidate Mariya Calkins.  “When I learned Rep. Williamson would not run for re-election, I decided wholeheartedly to pursue this opportunity, with a strong emphasis on our conservative principles.  I support free enterprise, Constitutional protections, and personal liberty, and I believe District 3 can continue to prosper if we stay true to these values and defend our freedoms.  I thank Rep. Williamson for his excellent service to our district.  It would be an honor to follow in his footsteps.”

Mariya was born in the U.S.S.R., where she experienced firsthand the severe restrictions on freedom and personal liberties under the Communist regime.  In 2018, she became a U.S. citizen.  She has served on staff in the Florida Legislature, where she had the opportunity to work on many conservative issues, including pro-life legislation.  She and her husband live in Milton with their two daughters.

Mariya has been endorsed by Congressman Matt Gaetz,  Santa Rosa County Commission Chair Bob Cole, Milton City Councilwoman Shannon Rice, Milton City Councilwoman Shari Sebastiao, and State Representative Anthony Sabatini.
